Stanley J. Strychaz, is vice-president and editor-in-chief at Saylor Publications. He has 38 years of experience in publishing construction cost data and construction management. He recently developed a custom unit and assembly construction cost database, for the City of San Diego Water Utilities Department. He designed and developed Property Assessment Manuals and estimating services for the States of Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona and for the Province of Nova Scotia. He also designed and developed the “Means Square Foot Costs” manual for R. S. Means. While at RS Means he initiated the development of computer assisted estimating programs. As an independent consultant, he managed several restoration projects in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He was responsible for negotiating contracts and overseeing construction of industrial gas facilities for Union Carbide in Chicopee, Massachusetts, Syracuse, New York and Ponce, Puerto Rico. He has an MBA from Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College and a BSEE from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He lives in West Hills, California with his wife Marianne and sons Frank and Andrew.

Jacobus Malan
, is associate editor at Saylor Publications. He is a quantity surveyor and professional estimator. In addition to developing construction costs for publication, he routinely advises owners on bidding procedures and contract arrangements. He manages the preparation of budgets, negotiates contracts and participates in construction management and cost control. For several years he was chief estimator at Lee Saylor, Inc., a construction cost consulting firm, he supervised a staff of estimators and cost engineers on major construction projects. He has extensive experience in estimating, scheduling and project management of correctional facilities in California and educational and hospital facilities in California and Canada. He earned a Bachelor of Science, in Quantity Surveying at the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa. He is a member of the American Association of Cost Engineers and the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors.


Yuang Steve Hsieh
, is associate editor at Saylor Publications, Inc. He has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, from National Cheng, Kung University, a Master Degree in Civil Engineering & Construction Management from Oklahoma State University and is a licensed contractor. He specializes in Mechanical and Electrical construction cost estimating. He has extensive estimating and scheduling experience in Change Order Review and bid analysis. He is frequently consulted on estimating unusual reconstruction projects related to major fire damage to complicated industrial facilities.
Daniel J. McNicoll, is associate editor, at Saylor Publications, Inc. He is a licensed contractor, specifications consultant and certified expert witness. He formerly owned and managed a corporation that designed, manufactured and installed windows for major commercial buildings. His millwork manufacturing background includes large scale residential projects, institutional projects built to specification, as well as, historical restoration work throughout the continental United States and Hawaii. He provided installation service on large millwork projects and personally has extensive finish carpentry experience. He setup and operated an Underwriters Laboratories licensed fabrication shop for the fire labeling of hollow metal doors and frames. He is certified as a structural arc welder. Operated a Warnock Hersey licensed wood fire door labeling and machining service. He has extensive architectural hardware specification, installation, and sales experience. He provides construction consultation for CSI Divisions Six, Eight, and Nine related topics, specializing in wood products. He offers expert testimony for cases involving door, window, and millwork issues relating to specification, manufacturing, and installation. Dan is a member of American Arbitration Association, Architectural Woodwork Institute, Construction Specification Institute, Door and Hardware Institute, International Congress of Building Officials, Sealed Insulated Glass Manufacturers Association, and Woodworks Institute of California.
Johonna M. Brumfield is associate editor, at Saylor Publications, Inc. She specializes in mechanical estimating. Her expertise is concentrated on Division 15 estimating. She is especially well versed in mechanical equipment and its utilization in industrial installations. She has an AA Degree Construction, Diablo Valley College, and is a member of American Society of Professional Estimators (ASPE), National Association of Female Executives (NAFE), and International Association of Plumbing & Mechanical Officials (IAPMO).
Thomas C. Moe, CPE, CSI, is associate editor at Saylor Publications, Inc. He is a Certified Professional Estimator. with 36 years of experience in construction estimating and construction management. He routinely prepares numerous estimates of the cost of construction for a wide range of projects each year. He has qualified many times in Federal and State Superior Courts as an expert on construction practices and procedures, construction costs, construction standard of care, construction defects, construction scheduling, insurance repair costs and construction safety. For six years he managed the Los Angeles and then the Sacramento offices of Lee Saylor, Inc., a construction cost consulting firm. He has developed construction cost data bases for both Northern and Southern California. He has considerable experience in costing and appraising insurance repair work. He experienced construction estimating and management in Montana and Arizona giving him a wide knowledge of construction costs. He is a member of the America Society of Professional Estimators, the Construction Specifications Institute, the Project Management Institute and the American Society of Architects.




Leland S. Saylor is the founder and principal advisor. He is a graduate of University of California, Berkeley and a member of several construction organizations. He founded Lee Saylor, Inc. a construction consulting firm. He is a prominent expert witness and construction consultant. He is currently operating as Saylor Consulting Group in San Francisco.

James L. Horvath
, is a chartered accountant, chartered business valuator, and accredited senior appraiser. He is a partner at Deloitte & Touche, where he is engaged in business valuations, mergers, and acquisitions since 1974. He has been involved in numerous significant valuations across Canada and has worked on assignments in over thirty countries. He is a widely published and well-known speaker on valuation topics. He was President of Canadian ASA Society of Appraisers and Regional Governor of American Society of Appraisers (1981-1986); Director of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators (1982-1985); and Director of Employee Share Ownership Plan Association (1990-1996). He is the author of Valuing Professional Practices (1990). Mr. Horvath, earned a Bachelors in Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from McMaster University.

James P Sweeney, is President of BVA Cogen, Inc. in Plymouth, Massachusetts. He founded BVA Cogen and several other energy related companies during the 1980’s. He is a recognized expert on installation of cogeneration facilities and an active promoter of efficient utilization of energy in industry and commerce. He is a member of ASHRAE, past president of the New England Chapter of American Society of Gas Engineers, member of the Association of Energy Engineers, member of the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), member of the Associated Industries of Massachusetts (AIM) and a member of the Board of Directors of NECA and Chairman of NECA’s “Small Project Committee” Mr. Sweeney earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from St. Francis College, Loretto, Pennsylvania. He served in the U. S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Counterintelligence Unit. He held positions Ocean Mechanical, MCC Powers, Robertshaw Controls and Facilities Management Company. He was regional manager for Litton Facilities Management Systems.

John M. Szymanski, is president and owner of Paradise Travel Service, Inc., a major New England travel service company. He has served the American Society of Travel Agents as chairman of several committees including the National Expense Survey Committee, and the Bonding and Insurance Committee. He was president of the New England Chapter and National Director of Area 1. He is a past president of the Allston, Massachusetts, Board of Trade and is active in several business and social organizations and societies. He held positions with IBM, United Shoe Machinery Corporation, Polaroid, and John Barry Associates. He has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute and an MBA with distinction from Boston University.

Sakan Yanagidaira, is president and owner of Group Dynamics Institute, Inc., Takara Industries Co., Ltd., and Yutaka Trends, Inc., in Tokyo, Japan. In 1991, he founded Jomon U-Tra, which is a Power-Up wellness health spa for executives at Tateshina, Japan, in Nagano Prefecture. Through his companies Mr. Yanagidaira directs the activities of highly skilled professionals involved in the marketing and delivery of motivational education programs and executive health maintenance activities. He has extensive experience in modifying and introducing new products and services to the Japanese market. He has written extensively on international business and translated the Entrepreneurs Handbook, by Professor Richard Buskirk into Japanese. He graduated from Keio University in Tokyo, Japan, majoring in Economics in 1962 and then obtained an MBA at the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration, Dartmouth College in 1967 after studying liberal arts at Haverford College.
